Sarah Follent

Hello, my name is Sarah and I am the Creative Director and Designer at Brisbane Family Law Centre (BFLC).

I’m an interior designer by degree, but over the years my work has evolved into something broader, part designer, part creative translator, part visual storyteller. At BFLC, I work alongside our lawyers to thoughtfully transform complex legal concepts surrounding separation and divorce into clear, calm and carefully considered documents and graphics. My role is to help make the legal feel more human, accessible, structured and easier to navigate during what can be an overwhelming time.

My journey with BFLC began in 2013, and I’ve grown alongside the firm ever since. I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Clarissa for many years, and I’ve always been drawn to her commitment to building a better business, one that prioritises both client care and team wellbeing. The kindness, vision, work excellence and the balance of fun and focus are just some of the reasons I’ve stayed and continue to feel deeply connected to this work.

Having been part of the firm for over a decade, I understand how matters move from beginning to resolution. That perspective allows me to design resources that are not only visually cohesive, but genuinely supportive and practical for both our lawyers and clients.

I currently work part-time while raising my young family. This season of life has shaped the way I work,  intentionally, thoughtfully and with care. It’s important to me that my professional contribution reflects the same values I hold at home: presence, clarity and respect for time. I’m grateful for the flexibility to contribute meaningfully to the firm while also being present with my daughters.

Outside of work, creativity doesn’t switch off. I love crafting and designing with my girls, experimenting with fashion and textiles, and baking elaborate cakes without a recipe (sometimes successfully). Weekends are often spent with my extended family and my brother and sisters’ families, noisy, joyful and grounding. I have a long-standing love for Sade, her music, her style, her understated confidence, and my music taste generally doesn’t reflect my age.

At heart, I believe thoughtful design has the power to steady people. Whether it’s through a carefully structured document, a considered visual guide, or the quiet clarity of good layout and language, I see my role as helping clients feel less overwhelmed and more supported.

Although I am in a design role, I do sometimes jump into to help welcome clients into the office or take a message when they call in.

Being part of BFLC is something I’m genuinely proud of. I value the collaboration, integrity and shared commitment to excellence within our team, and I’m grateful to contribute to work that truly matters.

Q&A:

1. BFLC is all about… colour, kindness and solving a legal problem with both of these qualities.
2. If I wasn’t in law, I would be… a voice actress for a cartoon character. Blinky Bill would be the ultimate but Robyn Moore is too good!
3. If I was a sitcom character, I’d be… Monica Geller from the all time classic Friends. Minus her neuroticism.
4. The worst misspelling of my name I’ve ever seen was… Sara— without the ‘h’ was offensive enough.
5. My role model/hero is… Eddie Ringe – he has been my partner in crime since high school.
